PROJECT description:
This residence represents a complete transformation of an existing structure — a sustainable reimagining that preserves the original skeletal framework while redefining its meaning within the contemporary zeitgeist. Rather than demolishing and rebuilding, the project embraced a greener approach: extracting beauty and purpose from what already existed.
Every surface and proportion was re-examined to support a distinct lifestyle, maximizing spatial efficiency and visual serenity. The former utilitarian shell evolved into a sensuous, tactile environment composed of toned, earthy materials — travertine, plaster, and natural wood — grounding the home in its hillside context. The architecture choreographs a quiet equilibrium between mass and light, openness and intimacy, while carefully edited details minimize visual noise.
Shielded from the street yet fully open toward the horizon, the spatial sequence culminates in a seamless extension toward the Los Angeles basin, where the city unfolds as a cinematic backdrop. Notable features include a natural material palette, a floating ribbon oak staircase encased in bronze glass, and a luminous onyx wine wall that doubles as a light source, illuminating the lower level. Designed to endure both physically and emotionally, the home embodies timeless modernism — where restraint becomes luxury and material honesty transforms sustainability into art.
